Volume and fake volume
Volume is the most faked number on a memecoin chart. How to tell real trading from a bot.
Share on XVolume is how much was traded in a window of time. High volume looks like attention, so people fake it.
Why volume gets faked
Terminals and trending lists sort coins by volume and transactions. A coin with high volume shows up in more feeds, and more traders see it. A volume bot buys and sells the same coin from a set of wallets to inflate those numbers, usually for little cost.
Signs the volume is not real
- Volume is high, holders do not grow. Thousands of trades and the holder count barely moves.
- Same-size trades. The trades tab shows the same amounts again and again, buy then sell.
- Regular rhythm. A trade every two seconds, all day.
- Market cap stays flat. Real buying pressure moves the price. Buys and sells that cancel out do not.
Real volume looks messy
Organic trading is uneven. Different sizes, different wallets, bursts when someone posts about the coin, quiet periods in between. Holder count rises with volume.
Volume relative to market cap
A $50K coin doing $2M of volume an hour is either about to move hard or being botted. Check the holders and the trades tab before you decide which.
