Position sizing

The rule that keeps you in the game long enough to get good. Size every trade to go to zero.

1 min read

Most memecoins go to zero. Your sizing has to assume that.

The core rule

Size every trade so that losing all of it does not matter. Not "it would hurt a bit". Does not matter.

A common starting point: no single trade larger than 1 to 2% of your trading balance. If you have 10 SOL to trade with, that is 0.1 to 0.2 SOL per trade.

Why this works

  • You will be wrong often. Even good traders lose on most fresh launches. Small sizes mean being wrong is cheap.
  • One win can pay for many losses. A 10x on 0.1 SOL covers nine full losses of the same size.
  • You stay calm. Small positions let you follow your plan instead of panic selling or hoping.

Separate the money

  • Vault: savings. Never in a trading wallet. Never traded.
  • Trading balance: a fixed amount you can lose entirely.
  • Profits: moved back to the vault on a schedule, so a bad week cannot take them.

When to go bigger

Only after weeks of tracked results that show you actually have an edge. "I have a good feeling about this one" is not an edge. Write down every trade, entry and exit market cap, and why. After a month, the notes will tell you more than any guide.
