Your first trade on Axiom

From an empty wallet to a first buy and sell, step by step, without the expensive mistakes.

1 min read

This guide uses Axiom, but the steps are nearly the same on any terminal. Interfaces change often, so the button names may differ slightly.

1. Set up the wallets

  1. Keep your main wallet (Phantom, Solflare, Backpack) as your vault. It holds most of your SOL and never signs anything risky.
  2. Log in to the terminal. It will create a trading wallet for you.
  3. Send a small amount of SOL from your vault to the trading wallet. Only what you are ready to lose this week.

2. Set your defaults before you trade

Open the trading settings and set these once. Details are in Settings people forget.

  • Slippage: something like 15 to 25% for fresh pump.fun coins.
  • Priority fee and tip: modest values. You can raise them later.
  • Buy presets: small fixed amounts, like 0.1, 0.25 and 0.5 SOL. Presets stop you from typing an extra zero.

3. Find a coin and check it

Pick a coin from the feed or paste a contract address. Before you buy, check in this order:

  1. Dev wallet history.
  2. Top-10 holders and bundle percent.
  3. Socials and whether people are actually talking about it.
  4. The chart. See Reading 1-second candles.

4. Buy

Click your smallest preset. Watch the transaction confirm. Your position appears with its entry market cap.

5. Plan the exit before you need it

Decide now: at what market cap do you take your initials out? At what point do you accept the loss? Write it down. See Taking initials.

6. Sell

Use the sell buttons (25%, 50%, 100%). On thin coins, selling everything at once can move the price against you. Selling in parts is often better.

7. Move profits back

When you are up, send SOL back to your vault. A trading wallet with a growing balance is a target, and a temptation.
