Settings people forget
Slippage, priority fees, tips and MEV protection. Small numbers that decide whether your trade lands.
Share on XMost "the terminal is broken" complaints are settings. These are the ones to understand.
Slippage
Slippage is how far the price can move between clicking buy and your trade landing. If it moves more than your slippage setting, the trade fails.
- Too low: buys fail on fast-moving coins, and you pay fees for the failed attempt.
- Too high: you can get filled at a much worse price, and you invite sandwich attacks.
For fresh pump.fun coins, many traders use 15 to 25%. For calmer, bonded coins, lower is fine.
Priority fee
An extra fee to Solana validators to process your transaction sooner. When the network is busy, a higher priority fee helps your trade land. Most of the time a small value is enough. Raising it on every trade burns SOL quietly.
Tips (Jito and similar)
Some terminals send your transaction through a block engine with a tip. This can land trades faster and protects against some MEV. Like priority fees, tips are paid on every trade, so keep them reasonable.
MEV protection
MEV bots watch pending trades. A sandwich works like this: the bot buys right before you, your buy pushes the price up, and the bot sells right after you. You get a worse price, the bot keeps the difference. MEV-protected modes route your trade so bots cannot see it in advance. Turn it on for larger buys.
Presets
Set fixed buy amounts and sell percentages. They are faster than typing and they stop fat-finger mistakes.
